SUMMARY:Camp Shakespeare Performs As You Like It
DESCRIPTION:Camp Shakespeare students will perform Shakespeare's pastoral comedy\, As You Like It at the Texas Czech Historical and Cultural Center Sanford Schmid Amphitheater in La Grange on Friday evening\, July 9\, at 7:30 p.m.\, and at the Winedale Theatre Barn on Saturday\, July 10\, at 1:00 p.m. The public is invited. \n\nAdmission for adults is $5.00\, for youth 12-18\, $3.00\, for kids under 12\, FREE. Door prizes will be awarded at both performances. \n\nAs the title suggests\, Shakespeare's As You Like It offers players and audience alike a variety of things to entertain\, choices to make. Beginning with a version of the prodigal son story set in a world of hate and violence\, all of the "good folks" flee to the forest of Arden\, a world of "winter and rough weather"\, to have life-changing experiences. The central character\, Rosalind\, who was in Shakespeare's time played by a boy actor\, plays a girl who disguises herself as a boy pretending to be a girl\, magically "directs" everyone to a happy conclusion. \n\n\n"This is perhaps Shakespeare's most Christian comedy"\, said Jim Ayres\, Director of Camp Shakespeare. "Although pagan references are frequent\, we are always reminded of forgiveness\, redemption\, salvation and paradise." This is a play exploring lifestyles and especially\, what it is to love. "There is something for everyone\, here\, offered joyfully in excess\," noted Ayres. \n\nCampers attending Camp Shakespeare\, selected from a field of 62 applicants\, are from Dallas\, New York\, Houston\, San Antonio\, Brenham\, Hong Kong\, and Austin. Noah Sgovio\, a senior at La Grange High School\, and a six-year veteran of Camp Shakespeare\, will serve as intern to the program. \n\nFor reservations\, please write jayres@cvctx.com.
