SUMMARY:Camp Shakespeare Presents Taming of the Shrew
DESCRIPTION:The first summer session of Camp Shakespeare which began on\n\n\n\nJune 5 will conclude with public performances of Shakespeare's\n\n\n\nearly farcical comedy\, The Taming of the Shrew at the\n\n\n\nSanford Schmid amphitheater on the La Grange fairgrounds on\n\n\n\nFriday\, June 17\, at 7:30 p.m.\, and at the Winedale Historical\n\n\n\nCenter's Theater Barn on Saturday\, June 18\, at 1:00 p.m. \n\n\n\nAdmission for the performances is $5.00.  Youth under 12 are\n\n\n\nfree. Reservations for the Winedale performance are\n\n\n\nencouraged.  Please e-mail jayres@cvctx for information and\n\n\n\nreservations.\n\n\n\n\n\nParticipating are campers from Dallas\, Houston\, Mineola\,  \n\n\n\nGonzales\, Austin\, and Brenham. La Grange is represented by\n\n\n\nBea Burton\, daughter of Lori-Learned Burton and George\n\n\n\nBurton. The campers were selected for the two two-week\n\n\n\nresidential experience from a field of 83 applicants from around\n\n\n\nTexas and beyond.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince arriving\, they have not only been confronting the\n\n\n\nchallenges offered by the demands of the play and the\n\n\n\ndaily routines of physical and vocal exercise\, music and singing\,\n\n\n\ncabin-cleaning\, improvisations\, journal-writing\, textual and\n\n\n\ncharacter analysis\, and scene work\, but also the ever-present\n\n\n\nTexas heat. Hourly Gatorade is an essential part of the routine.\n\n\n\n\n\nCamp Shakespeare director\, Jim (Doc) Ayres\, reports that he \n\n \n\nand his staff are very pleased with the progress. "We have great\n\n\n\nkids in the program\, a great staff\, and a great play\," he said. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe second session begins on June 26 with students from\n\n\n\nvarious Texas cities as well as Brooklyn\, Hong Kong\, New\n\n\n\nOrleans\, Pennsylvania\, Washington D.C.\, and Ontario. Victoria\n\n\n\nBorgstedte\, daughter of Drs Allyson and Thomas Borgstedte\,\n\n\n\nwill represent La Grange.  These campers will explore\n\n\n\nShakespeare's The Winter's Tale.\n\n\n\n\n\n The site of Camp Shakespeare is Briarfiled B & B\, near Round\n\n\n\nTop. Ayres will expand the program to three sessions next year\n\n\n\nto accommodate the increasing interest in Camp Shakespeare.
