SUMMARY:The Bison: American Icon
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, June 16\, 2010\, Star of the Republic Museum at Washington-on-the-Brazos will open a new exhibit\, The Bison: American Icon. \nOriginating from the C. M. Russell Museum in Great Falls\, Montana\, the exhibit explores the \nmeaning and significance of this iconic creature from the Plains Indian culture of the 1800s \nthrough the commercial and national symbol of the present. The exhibit charts the dramatic \nchanges that occurred to the creature and its habitat\, and to the people who depended upon it \nfor their daily existence. It also illuminates the human response that eventually led to the bison's \npreservation as a species and a symbol in the twentieth century. The Bison: American Icon will \nbe open through August 11\, 2010. \nThis exhibition has been made possible through NEH on the Road\, a special initiative of the \nNational Endowment for the Humanities. It is brought to you by Mid-American Arts Alliance.
