Festival of Texas Fiddling

Texas Folklife and Texas Dance Hall Preservation, Inc. for a second year will collectively present a comprehensive study and celebration of Texas Fiddle Music. Recognizing the dance hall as the center of life for early Texas settlers and the fiddle as the center of many types of Texas music, the event celebrates both uniquely Texas traditions.

The Festival of Texas Fiddling will feature various music genre workshops lead by recognized masters of Texas fiddling.  Showcase performances follow each workshop. An Evening Dance featuring Elana James and Hot Club of CowTown will complete the festival.

New for 2015:  A free Kick Off Party will be held Friday, Nov. 6th at The Stone Cellar Airway Dance Hall in Round Top from 7:00 to 10:00 pm. The party will feature music by The Pettit Brothers.  Surprise appearances by Fest fiddlers are anticipated, along with impromptu fiddle jam sessions.

12:15-12:45pm - Valerie Ryals Showcase (Contest Style)

1-2pm - Brian Marshall Workshop (Texas Polish)

2:15-2:45 - Belen Escobedo& Ramon 'Rabbit' Sanchez Showcase (Tejano, Mexican-American)

3-4pm - Mark Rubin (30 min Showcase & 30 min Upright Bass Workshop)
** Rubin's bass showcase & workshop will highlight the various styles of bass played in    Texas traditional music from bowed bass to slap.

4-15-5:15pm - Ed Poullard Workshop (Creole)

5:30-6:15 Erupcion Hildalguense showcase (or 30 min show/30 min workshop if it works out, that is pending)

6:30-7:15pm - Master of Texas Fiddling Awards (2 Award Presentations)

+ 1 or 2 Plenary Tune Showcase of all fiddlers

7:30-11:00pm - Evening Dance with Hot Club of Cowtown
