"From Shield to Storm: Operational and Regional Aspects of Diplomacy" with Ambassador Ryan Crocker
From August to November 1990, Ryan Crocker was Director of the State Department's Iraq-Kuwait Task Force, overseeing State's response to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, including the welfare of American citizens caught up in the crisis and the effort to build an international coalition against the invasion. In November of 1990, he reopened the American Embassy in Beirut, an action made possible by the dynamics of the Bush-Baker diplomatic strategy. He later attended the Madrid Peace Conference, the Bush Administration's historic initiative to transform the essence of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Join us on Tuesday, September 23, as Ambassador Crocker discusses his role in the diplomatic efforts to avoid war, the building of coalition forces and President Bush’s leadership during the course of Desert Shield/Desert Storm. The event is free but seating is limited. Please register your attendance at Bush41.org/events. This event is being held as a part of our 35 Anniversary of Desert Shield/Desert Storm series, where we will explore various aspects of the conflict throughout the fall of 2025 and the spring of 2026.
