Hermann Furniture & Emporium Celebrates 150 Years as Texas’ Oldest Family-Owned Furniture Store

Sesquicentennial celebration set for May 15 in Historic Downtown Brenham

BRENHAM, TEXAS (May 2026) — Hermann Furniture & Emporium, the oldest family-owned and operated furniture store in the State of Texas, will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a special community celebration on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Historic Downtown Brenham.

The public is invited to enjoy an evening of complimentary food and beverages, live entertainment, giveaways, special guests, and the opportunity to tour the store’s anniversary displays while meeting members of the Hermann family.

Founded by Gottlieb Hermann in 1876, the business has been passed down through five generations of family leadership. Today, the store is owned and operated by Jennifer J. Hermann, who grew up in the business and now proudly carries the Hermann legacy forward.

Located in downtown Brenham, Hermann Furniture & Emporium is a destination showroom spanning more than 30,000 square feet, drawing customers from across Texas and beyond. Offerings include fine furniture, home accessories, gifts, an antique mall with more than 30 vendors, a gourmet emporium, a children’s boutique, and John’s Corner—a memorial shop honoring the late John Hermann.

More than a retail destination, Hermann Furniture & Emporium serves as a community hub, hosting signature events throughout the year including the Tabletop Event, Taste of Hermann’s, Christmas in July, Fall Open House, Christmas Magic benefiting the Heritage Society of Washington County, and Thankful Thursdays supporting local hunger relief through Bread Partners.
