Brenham Heritage Museum Celebrates Black History Month Featuring Fascinating Stories of Black Pioneers
This February, the Brenham Heritage Museum (BHM)is celebrating Black History Month by inviting the community to view the “Oh, I Didn’t Know That!” Exhibit. This exhibit features Black inventors, athletes, civil rights activists, and others whose roots are here in Brenham and Washington County. We guarantee visitors will leave, saying, “Oh, I Didn’t Know That!”
This exhibit tells the untold stories of African-American pioneers who invented and patented farm equipment, set sports records, shattered glass ceilings in Fortune 500 companies, and painted masterpieces displayed in the Smithsonian Museum. Through photos, memorabilia and notable facts, the Museum shares the stories of struggle and triumph of these African-Americans who made history.
The exhibit will remain on display through February 28. Visiting hours are Thursday through Saturday, 10am – 4pm. For more information about visiting the “Oh, I Didn’t Know That!” exhibit, or to arrange an educational tour for a group, please call 979-830-8445.
The museum’s African-American Content Committee, in partnership with the Texas Ten Historical Explorers, Inc., developed the exhibit content. The Texas Ten is an organization focused on discovering the untold history of African-Americans in Washington County.
