The Day at the Fair

The Brenham Heritage Museum knows that few things beat a day at the Fair. Their latest exhibit, celebrates the oldest county fair in Texas. As BHM’s old post office building is undergoing restoration, all history our exhibits are being mounted in the Bus Depot Gallery off Alamo Street at Clinton. The Bus Depot Gallery is open every Saturday from 10 to 4 and other days by appointment. Many small groups, both local and from out of town, regularly make appointments to visit during the week.
The Day at the Fair exhibit will cover everything a visitor might find at the fairgrounds both today and in decades past. From parades to rodeo, and grand champions to fireworks, BHM’s Day at the Fair recalls it all. More than a dozen aspects of the Fair will be included. One exhibit case will pay tribute to the hard-working volunteers of the Washington County Fair Association who have made the event happen since its inception in 1868. The Association has generously loaned many artifacts to the Museum for this exhibit. Other items will be from the Brenham Heritage Museum’s own collection or on loan from individuals. Some vintage photos from the Winkelmann Collection now housed at the Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas in Austin will also be prominent.
