This eloquent, profoundly moving drama tells the story of Jessie and her mother, Thelma, who live together in a small, isolated country house, and the events of one shattering evening. The play opens on what appears to be a typical Saturday night for Jessie and Thelma. Thelma finds the last snowball cupcake in the fridge; Jessie asks for some black plastic bags; and it's on their schedule that Jessie will give Thelma a manicure. With humor and pathos 'night, Mother digs deeply into family dynamics when Jessie makes a stunning announcement. Winner of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1983.
