Winedale Online Talk: Houston's Gulf Hotel Fire
Winedale’s next online talk will take place on Tuesday, March 16, at noon. On September 7, 1943 a fire tore through the Gulf Hotel in Houston claiming the lives of 55 men. It is the city’s worst fire-related tragedy, but it is largely forgotten. Brady Hutchison is a retired firefighter/arson investigator turned history professor and author, and currently teaches U.S. History at Wharton County Junior College. He will not only tell the story of the fire but also share how the city came together in the aftermath to aid the victims. Please e-mail tricia.blakistone@austin.utexas.edu for a link to this talk.
